Under the Banner of Heaven

Originally written by Elaine B.Under the Banner of Heaven

Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a multi-layered, bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith in Under the Banner of Heaven. Along the way, he uncovers a shadowy offshoot of America’s fastest-growing religion, and raises provocative questions about the nature of religious belief

In Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith, Jon Krakauer uses the murders of two brothers of a woman and her daughter as the focal point to explore the religious precepts of Mormon founder Joseph Smith and whose credo is practiced by FLDS Leader Warren Jeffs. Krakauer contrasts the FLDS to the mainstream Mormon Church and its denouncement of the FLDS.

The story is chilling and is a cold reminder of the lengths some will go to enact and maintain power.
