18 Ways to Thrive with the Library

We invite you to visit us at Greenwich Library and take advantage of all the Library has to offer so you can thrive! We’ve compiled a list of just some of the ways Greenwich Library (and our Byram Shubert and Cos Cob branches) can enrich your life, build a sense of community and help you be well. See you soon!

1. Delight in Art

Stop into the Flinn Gallery on the second floor of the Library to view an art show!

2. Get Tech Help

Stumped with your phone or tablet? Need help setting up your email? Get one-on-one help and ask any of your tech questions! Register to visit the Learning Lab on Saturdays at 11:00 am for help from Library staff.

3. Explore Virtual Reality

Try out the zSpace Augmented Reality Desktop in the Library’s Innovation Lab. View virtual models in 3D through lightweight glasses, examine them in detail from all angles, and manipulate them using a stylus pen. Library cardholders can reserve up to one hour per day, seven days in advance.

4. Find a Great Read

Find adventure, romance, and mystery in the pages of a book. Get recommendations from Librarians with our Staff Picks, get personalized recommendations, or browse new releases.

5. Share a Story

Spanish Storytime, Afternoon Story/Craft, Tales for 2’s and 3’s, Bilingual Storytime, Baby Lapsit: encourage a love of books and early language development at one or all of these storytimes with your little one(s)! Register through the Library’s online calendar.

6. Press Play

On our YouTube channel, you can find dozens of recorded events. There’s something for everyone!

7. Grow Your Career Skillset

Improve your prospects in the marketplace by learning in-demand skills from real-world industry experts with LinkedIn Learning (free with your Library card). Plus, find a career workshop at the Library to help you make a career change, optimize your resume, network, and leverage recruiters.

8. Build Your Family Tree

Our Local History Librarian Rick Hansen can help you search through an ancestry database, find out when your family settled in Greenwich, and so much more! Send us an email to set up your first appointment.

9. Turn Up the Music

Skip the fees that come with Spotify and Pandora. Stream and download music from thousands of artists and albums with your Library card on the hoopla app. All your favorite music is available on the app including Top 100 songs, rock, country, broadway hits, and more.

10. Prioritize Your Health

Amidst a global pandemic, take the time to care for your physical and mental health. In addition to thousands of health-related books, the Library offers many wellness programs like cooking demos, meditation, qi gong, tai chi, and chair yoga, as well as in-person blood pressure screenings.

11. Get into the Green

Looking to improve your finances? Join one of the Library’s financial workshops led by experts, including how to manage personal finances, invest your money, and seek grants. Plus, take advantage of the Bloomberg Terminal, an excellent investment tool, available in the Peterson Business Wing.

12. Learn a Language

With your Library card, access Mango Languages for free, which offers lessons for more than 70 languages. The Library also has an array of books, audiobooks, and more for ESL language learners of all levels.

13. Help Your Student Find Success

The Library has many resources to help kids thrive in school, from access to books to homework help and resources for teachers. Plus, for older students, check out books on how to ace the SATs & ACTs and find the right college or university.

14. Ask!

15. Experience History Firsthand

Turn back the clock through interviews with people who have helped to make or witnessed the history of Greenwich, Connecticut, since 1890. The Greenwich Library Oral History Project collection contains more than one thousand interviews and 142 books.

16. Connect with Friends

Share a night with friends or family over music, films, and more. Join the Friends of Greenwich Library for their ongoing Friends Friday Films Series.

17. Share a Love of Books

Each year, all of Greenwich reads and explores the same book in a community-wide reading experience called Greenwich Reads Together. Check out past GRT books at greenwichreadstogether.org, each of which is an excellent winter read. Plus find reviews, author interviews, and discussion questions to expand your experience and tally your list of books to nominate!

18. Find Something for You

Explore, learn, and grow! Enhance your year with your community through the Library’s many virtual and in-person events. You’ll find something for every age and interest from Book Groups to writing workshops to programs for small business owners. Find something for you!
