Signature Series Announcements

Greenwich Library’s Signature Series is pleased to welcome award-winning photographer and filmmaker Pete McBride to the Library’s Berkley Theater on Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 pm. for a discussion about the value of protecting our lands and waters for future generations. This event will take place both in-person and via livestream.

McBride will be joined in conversation by Dr. Frogard Ryan, Connecticut State Director of The Nature Conservancy.

In a world ever more congested and polluted with toxins and noise, award-winning photographer Pete McBride guides the audience on a pole-to-pole quest for peace and quiet. Drawing from his many adventures and expeditions through the Grand Canyon, to the flanks of Mount Everest, to the African Savannah, and the Antarctic Peninsula. Pete takes stock of wild and rarely touched places on Earth and offers insights from vantages where few (if any) photographers have ever stood, showing how everything is connected. A native Coloradan, McBride has spent two decades studying the world with a camera. A self-taught photographer, filmmaker, writer, and public speaker, he is a Sony Artisan of Imagery and has traveled on assignment to over 75 countries for National Geographic, Smithsonian, Google, and The Nature Conservancy. He has also spoken on stages for TEDx, The World Economic Forum, USAID, the Nat Geo Live speaker series, and others.

After a decade documenting remote expeditions from Everest to Antarctica, McBride focused his cameras closer to home on the Colorado River, leading to his acclaimed book, Grand Canyon; Between River and Rim, which won a National Outdoor Book Award. He accompanied the book with a feature-length documentary, Into the Canyon, for National Geographic Channel, which won Best Feature at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, among others.

A passion for nature, a love of animals and a dedication to making the world a better place brought Dr. Frogard Ryan to the Connecticut Chapter of  The Nature Conservancy as its State Director in 2011. Conservation milestones during her tenure include: securing a conservation easement for the largest coastal forest between New York City and Boston, shepherding the passage of the Long Island Sound Blue Plan through the legislature, reopening hundreds of miles of fish migration routes along Connecticut’s waterways, the development of a model coastal resilience building workshop that has been used throughout Connecticut, New York, and several other states, and developing the chapter’s urban conservation program in Bridgeport.

Registration using the Library’s online calendar is required for both the in-person and livestream options starting March 23 at 9 am. This program will not be recorded. Books will be available for purchase and signing through Diane’s Books.

This event is co-sponsored by the Town of Greenwich Sustainability Committee.
