The mission of Greenwich Library (the “Library”) is to provide exceptional resources, programs and services that promote the joy of lifelong learning and discovery, and to offer a welcoming place for people to gather and share experiences. One of the Library’s core values is to ensure free and convenient access to information.
Greenwich Library, which includes the Main Library building and the Byram Shubert and Cos Cob Branch Libraries, is both a publicly and privately supported library and shall maintain free access to use of its resources to the fullest extent reasonably possible, subject to Library policies, rules, and guidelines, and the constraints of funding, staffing limitations, and the availability of space in the Library and demand for particular resources. Such use is intended for the residents of the Town of Greenwich as well as those afforded borrowing privileges by the Library Board of Trustees (the “Board”) or the Library Director.
1. Library Access:
a. Greenwich Library shall permit free use of materials and services within the Library buildings as well as attempt to provide remote access to those patrons incapable of physically accessing these resources.
b. Greenwich Library endorses and subscribes to the American Library Association (“ALA”) Policy regarding the provision of equitable access for persons with disabilities.
c. Charges for special services may be imposed by the Board in consultation with the Library Director. A schedule of charges including (2.c) shall be made available to the public and reviewed from time to time.
2. Borrowing Privileges:
a. A Greenwich Library card may be acquired without fee for those who live, work, own property, or attend school in Greenwich.
b. Greenwich Library card holders may borrow all available resources subject to Library rules; holders of cards from other public Connecticut libraries may borrow physical materials, subject to some limitations imposed by the Library staff from time to time
c. Greenwich Library allows others to acquire a Library card for an annual fee.
