PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Computer/Internet Skills
Greenwich Library’s Technology Training Center offers hands-on programs and demonstrations to teach computer basics, software programs, Internet searching skills and library resources.
Basic Internet
This session covers Internet background, some basic Web navigational skills, and a short tour of Greenwich Library's Web site. Sessions have been designed with the novice in mind. No previous Internet experience needed.
NetSearch - Using Search Engines
Want to know how to find information on the Internet? Learn tips and tricks for tracking down information on the Web. Learn to search using three different tools: a directory (Yahoo), search engine (Google) and a metasearch engine (Metacrawler). Some computer and Internet experience necessary.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly--Evaluating a Web Page
Learn how to avoid "cyber trash" and find treasure on the Internet!
Tips and techniques for evaluating materials found on the Internet. Come to this session if you plan on using the Internet as one of your research resources--there is a vast amount of information on the Internet--some good, some bad, and some really ugly. Learn how to tell the difference! Some computer and Internet experience necessary.

Email Basics
Learn how to set up a free email account; how to compose, send and receive email.
Google Basics
Learn how Google works and how to perform basic searches to access relevant websites. Use Google to find news, images, maps, companies and information. Although Google is a search engine, this program explores other aspects.
Google Extras
Beyond basics, beyond searching, explore Google Earth, Google Labs, Google Apps, and Google's digitization program.

This session features a Library Web site tour, focusing on the links our librarians have chosen in a number of different subject areas. This is your chance to experience the best of what the Internet has to offer. Some computer and Internet experience necessary.
Manage Your Library Account Online
Learn to use your library card online to access your library account. Keep track of checked out materials and dates due; renew items and request materials.
Databases @ Your Library
Greenwich Library has over 80 databases for health, business & industry, art & antiques, genealogy, music, downloadable audio books, government, education, science, general reference and newspaper/magazine information. Our Greenwich Library staff will provide hands on introduction and practice on one database per session.
Greenwich Time Index
Greenwich Library has the only full archive of the Greenwich Time. Learn to access the Greenwich Time Index and search for articles on database and microfilm in a collection that goes back to the late 1800's Greenwich Time. Articles are available online, microfilm and in print at Greenwich Library. The Greenwich Time is a great source to find marriages, obituaries and local history information.

Learn how to browse, select and download from our online collection of audiobooks and ebooks.
Spotlight Online...
Spotlight Online is a series of public programs that introduce library users to free online services and applications. These programs cover news & entertainment, personalizing home pages, photosharing, self publishing, social networking, shopping on line, downloading music and video files, organizing book collections, subscribing to podcasts and RSS feeds, jobs and career resources and more.
Classes are offered Mondays at 2 p.m. and presented by library staff.

A free video sharing website which lets users upload, view and share video clips.

Download music and podcast. Import your CDs into digital files on your computer. Organize your music collection and create playlists.
Flickr
A free online photo management that allows you to organize your photos and share them with family and friends.
Family Blogs
Learn how to set up a blog (short for "Web log") that allows a group to share a running log of events and personal insights with family members.
LinkedIn
LinkedIn is a free online network that connects business professionals. Find potential clients, be found for business opportunites, search for jobs and get introduced to other professionals through the people you know.

The Internet Movie DataBase is an extensive resource for all things film. Check show times and plot synopsis for currently playing movies. Find biographical information on favorite actors, writers and directors.

ABOUT TECHNOLOGY TRAINING CENTER
The primary mission of the Technology Training Center is to create an environment in which Library staff and patrons can empower themselves with a practical understanding of current technology.
Goals of the Technology Training Center are:
- to be a valuable technological resource to all participants regardless of their level of knowledge of computers and technology;
- to provide an environment in which participants will feel comfortable exploring and learning a variety of new technologies;
- to provide the technological and intellectual tools necessary to utilize the computer;
- to empower participants with a better understanding of today's technology;
- to integrate the participant's lives with technology in an effort to better prepare them for today's and tomorrow's library environment.
