Getting Started with OverDrive for eBooks and Audiobooks

(Kindle Fire)

You will need your Greenwich or Perrot Library card number and PIN

Setup

  1. Install the free Overdrive app from the Kindle Appstore.
  2. Open the Overdrive app, and tap “Sign Up.”
  3. Tap “Sign up using your library card.”
  4. On the “Find your library” screen, enter “Greenwich” and press “Go.” Tap on “Greenwich Library.”
  5. Enter your Library card number (no spaces, typically 14 digits beginning in 21117).
  6. Enter your Library Card PIN (4-digit number) and press “sign in.”
  7. From your Bookshelf page, tap the navigation bar (3 horizontal lines) at the top left of the screen and hit “Add a library.” Again, type “Greenwich library” into the search bar and press “Search.” Select the Greenwich Library and press the star icon to save it.

Browsing & Borrowing

  1. To begin browsing, tap the “+ Add a title” box, which will take you to the Greenwich Library digital catalog.
  2. To locate a specific title, tap “Search” in the top left corner of the screen next to the magnifying glass.
  3. Once you find an available title, tap “Borrow” below its image.
  4. On the next screen, you may be asked to type in your library card information again. Remember to tap “Remember my card number on this device” so you don’t have to do this again.
  5. You will be asked to confirm your choice by tapping “Borrow” At this time, you can change the loan period for that title by tapping on the loan period to the right of the image.
  6. After you confirm your checkout, you can choose to “Read now with Kindle” or “Download EPUB book.”
    a. If you borrowed via EPUB, access the title by going to your bookshelf by pressing the navigation bar (3
    horizontal lines) in the upper left and clicking “Bookshelf.”
    b. If you tapped “Read now with kindle,” you will need to sign in with your Amazon account info. On the right side of the screen, choose your Kindle from the drop-down menu “Deliver to:” and hit “Get Library Book.” It will now be sent to the Kindle’s Books app on your device and not the Overdrive bookshelf. Tap on the cover to start reading.
  7. You can borrow up to 20 eBooks or audiobooks at a time. Returns are automatic & there are no late fees.
  8. To browse, borrow and access Overdrive content from a desktop or laptop computer, simply open any browser (Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox) go to https://greenwich.overdrive.com/ and log on to your account.

Shelf

  1. From your Shelf, you can access your Loans. Tap the three vertical dots next to a title to see other available options for that title, such as Return to the library, Share, and Details.
  2. To read your eBook, tap the cover and it will open automatically. To close it, tap in the center of the page and tap the back arrow in the upper left of the screen.
  3. To begin listening to your audiobook, tap the cover and it will play automatically. Press the pause button in the center to pause it.
