Staff Pick: ‘Barnyard’

With all the craziness going on in the world, I decided to take a break from it all and watch the animated movie “Barnyard” (2006) on Hoopla. The story revolves around a cow named Ben and his adopted “son” Otis.
Otis is a typical adolescence, who refuses to heed Ben’s advice to be responsible. He would rather engage in childish hijinks with his barnyard friends than learn the skills he’ll need to eventually take over Ben’s role as protector.
Otis develops a fondness for a new arrival – an expectant mother. He tries to impress her with his antics, and they begin to get close. When some coyotes show up and threaten the serenity of the Barnyard, Otis must decide if he should stay or leave. He has an awful lot of growing up to do in a short period of time.
The movie is entertaining on many levels. It stresses the importance of responsibility and cooperation in the community. Dependability and courage is stressed. The entire family will enjoy this movie.
