Spring Break 2019: A Library Activities Guide for Children & Parents

Plan your week around these fun programs, hands-on workshops and events happening at the Greenwich Main Library and its branches. Hope to see you there!

 

MONDAY, 4/15
Robert Rogers Puppet Company: “The Reluctant Dragon”
Time: 10:30 – 11:30 p.m.
Location: Byram Shubert Library
A boy befriends a peaceful, poetry-loving dragon in the hills beyond the village, but when the townsfolk find out and hire a knight to slay the dragon, the boy comes up with a clever plan: the “pretend” tournament of the century! Can a boy, a knight, and a dragon pull this off so that everyone gets their happy ending?

Vacation Movie: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

TUESDAY, 4/16
Vacation Movie: Ralph Breaks the Internet
Time: 11 a.m.
Location: Cos Cob Library
Six years after the events of “Wreck-It Ralph,” Ralph and Vanellope, now friends, discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure. Rated PG, run time: 1:51 minutes

Fun with Chess Led by Master Rich
Time: 1 – 2 p.m.
Location: Byram Shubert Library
Come and learn the basics of chess, or learn new strategies, or merely come to play with an award-winning champion! Pieces will be provided.

Story Crafts
Time: 4 – 5 p.m.
Location: Main Library
Stories, songs and a fun craft designed for children ages three, four and five with a parent or caregiver. Children make their own craft to take home. No registration is required but space is limited. Please come early and sign in at the Children’s Room desk.

 

WEDNESDAY, 4/17
Vacation Movie: The Kid Who Would be King
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Location: Cos Cob Library
A band of kids embark on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace! Rated PG, run time: 2 hours

R.E.A.D. to a Dog
Time: 3:15 p.m.
Location: Byram Shubert Library
This nationwide program brings trained dogs to hospitals, schools and libraries. Choose a book and get acquainted with a dog and its owner. Practice or show off your reading skills. The dogs are great listeners and appreciate story-telling!

 

THURSDAY, 4/18
Yoga for Kids with Kristin DeGroat
Time: 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Byram Shubert Library
Join Kristin for a fun session of yoga, an activity that benefits children in many ways, including improving focus, study habits and sleep.

Vacation Movie: Mary Poppins Returns
Time: 2 p.m.
Location: Cos Cob Library
Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael’s children through a difficult time in their lives. Rated PG, run time: 2:10 minutes

Learn Electronics with Arduino
Time: 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Main Library
Arduino boards are based on an easily accessible development environment for writing code and software, making it perfect for projects small and large. In this program, each student will work hands-on with the Arduino Uno microcontroller board and learn the basics of writing computer code to make their own technology project or idea come alive. Ages 13+
**Registration, through the Library’s online calendar, is required.

The Library and its branches will be closed for Good Friday.

 

SATURDAY, 4/20
Family Fun Saturday: Legos, Games, and Craft & Oreo the Rabbit Meet and Read
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Location: Cos Cob Library
Come drop in and create something wonderful! All children three years of age and older are welcome. Stay to play one of our board games and do our drop-in craft. From 11 am – noon, Oreo the reading rabbit will stop by to meet you. Oreo is “all ears” and would love to snuggle up and listen to you read a spring book.
