Teen Review: A Winter’s Promise

Teen Book Review: Here’s a guest review from Amelka on Christelle Dabos’ A Winter’s Promise.

A Winter’s Promise is a sensational story of a girl whose life was given away under the care of another man against her will. This is her story…Long ago, God thought the people did not satisfy him enough, therefore he set a rupture on the world causing it to shatter into arks. Each of these arks has inhabitants that have unique and somewhat magical abilities. Ophilia, one of these inhabitants has the power and ability to read the pasts of objects. She can also travel through mirrors, a skill that most of her family possesses. Her peaceful life is disturbed when she has to marry Thorn, an influential and disliked member of another clan. She then has to leave her family behind and move to her fiance’s ark. The Pole. There no one can be trusted and the fragile Ophilia has to go into hiding. The chase starts when members of the clan are suspicious. Murders are committed, suspicious poisonings arise, and certain dark secrets and identities are revealed. What will Ophilia do when things get out of hand? Will her stern, feelingless fiance help her?

Overall I would rate this book a 9/10. It is a very good and intriguing story but, some of the parts went too fast and I had to go back. Apart from this, A Winter’s Promise is a very classical young adult book. The main themes are manipulation, love, and abuse of power. I loved this book and I recommend it to anyone who likes suspense and who likes cliffhangers. A Winter’s Promise is truly a wonderful adventure.
