Middle School Book Club

When: Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Where: Greenwich Library at Meeting Room

Monthly book discussion for students in grades 6,7 and 8. The title we will be discussing today is City of Orphans by Avi. "In 1893 New York, thirteen-year-old Maks, a newsboy, teams up with Willa, a homeless girl, to clear his older sister, Emma, from charges that she stole from the brand new Waldorf Hotel, where she works." A 2014 Nutmeg Award nominee.

Extended Hours for Final Exams

When: Tuesday, May 28, 2013 - All Day
Where: Greenwich Library

Greenwich Library will offer extended hours to accommodate high school students during final exams. The Main Library will remain open until 10 p.m. Tuesday May 28 through Thursday, May 30 to coincide with the private school schedule. The Library will be open primarily for the students, but anyone can use the facility during these extended hours.

The Library Café will extend its hours until 7:00 p.m., and students can purchase study break snacks. Library staff will be available to assist with reference questions.

Greenwich Library Comic Book Club

When: Monday, June 03, 2013 - 7:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Where: Greenwich Library

Comic book and graphic novel fans from grades 7-12 get together on the first Monday of every month to discuss their favorite titles and current trends in the genre. The members can bring their own copies or borrow ones from the library. Meetings will be held in Teen Central on the second floor beginning at 7:00 pm.

Friday Night Chess Club

When: Friday, June 07, 2013 - 7:00 PM - 8:45 PM
Where: Greenwich Library at Meeting Room

The first Friday of every month is Chess Night! National Master Rich Jackson will provide instruction, supervise play and challenge you to a game or two. All ages and skill levels are welcome. You don't have to bring anything except your love of the game or your desire to learn. No registration is required.

Conquering the College Admissions Essay

When: Saturday, June 22, 2013 - 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Greenwich Library at Meeting Room

If the thought of writing a college admissions essay fills you with dread and panic, then join us on Saturday, June 22 at 11 am in the Meeting Room. Alan Gelb, author and college essay coach, will provide tips and strategies for crafting a winning personal statement. Gelb is the author of Conquering the College Admissions Essay in 10 Steps. He will present the qualities and techniques necessary to craft a narrative that expresses your unique personality, strengths and goals. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
