  • Homework Central -- This was recommended in the January 6, 2000 NY Times. Search their "Knowledge" area (10,000 study subjects linked to 75,000 scholar-selected Internet resources.) There are three different levels: Kid, Teen and College

  • The Internet Public Library offers POTUS (Presidents of the United States) Here you will find background information, election results, cabinet members, presidency highlights, and some odd facts on each of the presidents. Links to biographies, historical documents, audio and video files, and other presidential sites are also included.
  • Also from the Internet Public Library, finally some good literary criticism! Check out the information found on over 1000 sites that have been gathered at the Online Literary Criticism Collection.
  • The Presidential Timeline of the Twentieth Century The Presidential Timeline provides digitized resources from the collections of the twelve Presidential Libraries of the National Archives. You’ll find documents, photographs, audio recordings, and video relating to the events of the presidents’ lives.
  • The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World are detailed here.
  • First Nations Histories -- This site is a gem for anyone interested in Native American History. It's well organized, and is easy to navigate.
  • The 50 States -- well organized site with lots of state information
  • Anthems and  Flags of the Nations of the World -- Provides clear pictures of national flags and MIDI recordings of national anthems. Lyrics are included for most countries' anthems, with English translations and transliterations where needed. Loads slowly, but is worth the wait!

  • Ebsco Animals In-depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals. The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals. Within some of the full text, image links are available.   • Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia--Includes over 25,000 records, covering an array of topics. Full text for each record may be easily accessed by double clicking on the topic from the display. The database contains various images, offers brief biographies as well as information in a variety of subject areas. This database is updated annually.

  • Masterfile Premier (coverage 1975-current) Provides full text for nearly 1,950 general periodicals covering a broad range of disciplines including general reference, business, education, health, general science, multi-cultural issues and much more. In addition to the full text, this database provides indexing and abstracts for nearly 2,600 titles.
  • The New York Times Three year rolling archive.
  • The New York Times Historical Collection The New York Times (1851-2001) Offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue.
  • NoveList This database allows readers to use a favorite author or title as a template to locate other authors and titles of interest. Besides locating books to read, users can learn more about books and authors through Author Read-alikes, Feature Articles, Book Discussion Guides, and BookTalks.
  • Primary Search (coverage 1984-current for abstracts and 1989-current for full-text) Provides full text for more than 50 popular, magazines for elementary school research.   • The Gateway to Educational Materials project is a consortium effort to provide educators with quick and easy access to the substantial, but uncataloged, collections of educational materials found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites. GEM is a project of the U.S. Department of Education and is a special project of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information & Technology.
  • Hotlist of K12 Internet School Sites. Find schools on the Net by state and get statistics (regional, national, etc).
  • Hot Spots for Teachers. This site was put together for the Assiniboine South School District in Winnipeg, MB, CA by the Media Services Coordinator, Margaret Stimson. It got a rave review in School Library Journal's January 97 issue. (p. 13)

  • Web66. One of the best Web sites for educators. Includes the "International Registry of K12 Schools on the Web."
