• FamilySearch -- The official Internet site of The Church of  Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, allows you to search for people and also to access their online catalog for books and other materials that may be borrowed through a Family History Center.
• Roots Web -- A massive genealogy site depending on volunteer input; has surname lists, message boards, & more
• Social Security Death Index from Ancestry.com, lists deceased persons with Social Security numbers whose deaths have been reported to the SSA.
• USGENWEB Project -- intends to provide internet websites for genealogical research in every county and state in the US; it is maintained by volunteers.
