The New Blue A Capella

The Peterson Concert Series is pleased to host The New Blue, Yale’s oldest female a capella group, on Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m. in the Berkley Theater. The New Blue performs styles ranging from contemporary pop and rock to jazz and swing standards. Registration is required.

Peterson Music Lecture: The Beatles

There will also be a Peterson Music Lecture this month focusing on the Beatles. On Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Berkley Theater, composer and producer Scott Freiman will present “A Trip Through Strawberry Fields,” a multimedia presentation featuring rare audio and video from the recording sessions of the songs “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Penny Lane,” and “A Day in the Life.” Registration is required.

Ashforth Children’s Concert Series: Mozart for Munchkins

The Ashforth Children’s Concert Series, which is designed to introduce children to classical music performances, will welcome Mozart for Munchkins and their program “Jazzical Jamboree” on Saturday, March 23 at 11am in the Berkley Theater. After the performance, children will be able to participate in an “instrument petting zoo.” Registration is required.

Discussion Sponsored with the League of Women Voters and Connecticut Public

In conjunction with the League of Women Voters and Connecticut Public, Greenwich Library will host a discussion between University of Pennsylvania Professor Kermit Roosevelt III, author of The Nation That Never Was, and Yale Professor Akhil Reed Amar on Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in the Berkley Theater. The two will discuss the varying views on how and where “American values” evolved. More information here; registration is required.

Friends Friday Films

The Friends Friday Films series will host a special Greta Gerwig retrospective of her three critically acclaimed films—all of which garnered Academy Award Best Picture nominations—in March.

Children and Teen Programming

Children’s musician Tom Weber will bring his guitar and fun tunes on Saturday, March 16 from 10:30–11:00 a.m. in the Marx Family Black Box Theater. Tom’s performances are filled with interactive movement, props, singing, dancing, and lots of energy. His repertoire includes original songs as well as traditional favorites. Tom’s music is intended to get children moving, singing, feeling confident, and having fun! Registration is not required; more information is available on our website.

Violinist Chie Yoshinaka will play her popular Petite Concert on Tuesday, March 19 at 11 a.m. in the Marx Family Black Box Theater. Aimed at newborns through preschoolers, this 30-minute concert is a charming introduction to live classical music for our youngest patrons. Registration is not required; more information is available on our website.

Tweens and teens are invited to spend an afternoon learning the basics of Dungeons & Dragons from a real Dungeon Master from Tabletop Now on Saturday, March 2 from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Students in grades 6-12 are welcome, as are all experience levels. Learn from an expert and see what all the hype is about! Registration is required.

Students in grades 6-12 who enjoy role-playing games should come try their hand at a Historical Miniature War Game on Thursday, March 14 from 6–8:30 p.m. The strategy-based games will use painted miniature figures and terrain boards modeled after a famous historic battle—sign up to find out which one! Registration is required.

Innovation Lab Workshops

The Innovation Lab has regular hours that patrons may book for using the laser cutter, engraver, 3D printer, or any of the other tools available. Customized classes in the Innovation Lab for March include:

Tax Help

Tax season is in full swing, and for those who need help getting their paperwork ordered and filed, the AARP Foundation is offering free tax prep on Saturdays through April 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Library’s Community Meeting Room 5. This service is open to all patrons, regardless of age. Registration is not required, but each day’s appointments are first come first served. More information is available here about the forms and identification to have on hand.

Health Workshops

An important recurring health and wellness event is our weekly blood pressure screenings—each Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., free blood pressure screenings will be conducted by a registered nurse from Greenwich Hospital. No registration is necessary, just proceed to Community Meeting Room 5 located in Peterson Business Wing on the main floor.
