TITLE;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Evolution of the Classical Style
SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Evolution of the Classical Style
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Noted author, critic and scholar Mortimer Frank will discuss the development of Classicism, from its roots in the Baroque era to its full flowering in the works of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. The first lecture in this series will deal with the roots of Viennese classicism as exemplified in the works of Purcell, Vivaldi, Bach, and Handel. It will illustrate how their music departed from modal style of the 16th century as it evolved into the harmonic idiom of the Baroque era and provided a foundation upon which Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven would eventually build. This presentation will feature several recordings to illustrate this transformation.
