MattMakerBot#2.pngThanks to everybody who came to Saturday's MakerBot program. Thirty six people attended! Special thanks to Student Leader member Olivia, who got the whole thing in motion.

MakerBot presenters Jon (below) and Matt (above) gave an excellent presentation. They showed how you can build all kinds of devices with their 3-D  printers.  And they indicated they'd return to do another program.

MAKERBOT BLOG.pngIn keeping with our "Spark A Reaction" summer reading theme, Jon Lavallee, manager of the MakerBot store on Greenwich Avenue, will demonstrate their company's 3D printer, share some stories and answer questions on Saturday, July 19th beginning at 2:00 pm in the second floor meeting room. This program is presented by our own Student Leadership Council group, which you can find out more about by clicking here

DEBATEJULY!2.pngThis Saturday, July 12th, and running every Saturday until August 9th between 11 am-1pm, Greenwich Library's Student Leadership Council  will work with middle school students and underclassmen in  high school the opportunity to learn about debate.  

The Student Leaders will provide a lesson for the first half hour on a skill used in one or both of the two kinds of debate that high school Connecticut debaters participate in. For the rest of the time, they'll either break off into teams or will stage a debate with the students, depending on the size of the group.

This opportunity will give future varsity-level debaters the skill-set, confidence, and understanding necessary for success. If you're a student from around Greenwich who's in grades 8-12, and you're interested in debating, stop by the Jewel Room on the first floor of Greenwich Library at 11:00 am this Saturday!

Thumbnail image for studentleaders.pngOur volunteer advisory group, the Student Leadership Council (AKA Student Leaders),consisting of students from grades 7-12, will get together at Teen Central on the second floor  Thursday night, July 10th, beginning at 7:00 pm. They'll discuss using library resources to initiate, develop & realize projects relevant to their peer group in exchange for community service hours. For more details, click here.  

Students Leadership Council members assist the library to provide essential programs to their particular age group as well as contributing to the library community. So come prepared!

Summer Reading Program Starts Today!

Are you ready for summer...reading? Join us as we kick off the teen program and "Spark a Reaction!"

If you are a student entering grades 6-12, come find out how you can win prizes simply by reading over the summer. Someone is going to win a really cool prize!

We'll have some pizza and watch "Now You See Me," an exciting heist movie described as Robin Hood meets David Copperfield starring Jesse Eisenberg and Dave Franco.
