Teen Tech Week: March 9-15

Thumbnail image for TTW2014logo.jpgGreenwich Library invites you to celebrate teen Tech Week and "DIY @ Your Library" March 9-March 15. The Library is full of tech toys like video games, CDs, and DVDs as well as books, music, movies & TV you can download. And of course, we're a great place to get connected to online homework help, SAT/ACT/AP test prep, research resources and more.

Each year YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) designates the second week in March as Teen Tech Week. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through their libraries.

Teen Tech Week encourages teens to get connected to their libraries and explore nonprint resources for both education and recreation.

Here are a few ways you can "DIY @ Greenwich Library" during Teen Tech Week:

·         Get yourself a library card

·         Follow-us on Facebook and Twitter

·         Download free music with your library card through Freegal

·         Become a Teen Tech Volunteer (and earn community service hours, too)

·         Check out the latest video games

·         Download an eBook or audiobook through Overdrive

·         Get full, digital copies of your favorite magazines through Zinio

·         Download YALSA's Teen Book Finder or another of our mobile apps

·         Stream or download TV, movies and music from Hoopla

·         Create a book trailer or other multimedia review of your favorite book and send it to us at Teen/YA Librarian

StudentLeadersJpeg.jpgOur volunteer advisory group, the Student Leadership Council (AKA Student Leaders),  consisting of students from grades 7-12, will get together at Teen Central on the second floor Thursday night, March 6th, beginning at 7:00 pm. They'll discuss using library resources to initiate, develop & realize projects relevant to their peer group in exchange for community service hours. For more details, click here.

Students Leadership Council members assist the library to provide essential programs to their particular age group as well as contributing to the library community. So come prepared!

Snacks & refreshments will be served.  Email us here, or call Ed and/or Everett at (203) 622-7918 or 625-6507 for more info. Hope to see you there!
