TeenBookFinderApp.pngHere's a great new app that students taking part in our summer reading program will enjoy:  The Teen Book Finder app.  As this press release puts it,  "(t)een lit fans, library staff, educators, parents and teen readers with Apple devices can now visit the Apple App Store and download the free Teen Book Finder, the first app created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association."

The TBF app, which can be downloaded for free, "highlights books and media from YALSA's awards and selected book and media lists, can be run on an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad".  For more info, click here

Teens4TeensBlogPic.pngFlush from their successful SAT Practice Test session on May 29th, Teens4Teens will have its' next meeting on Wednesday, June 6th, at 4:00 pm in the Teen Central area on the second floor. For more details, click here.  If you're currently a student in grades 9-12 who wants to do independent projects and get Community Service credit, you'll want to sign up!

As we've mentioned before, any student from grades 9-12 can take part in using Greenwich Library's resources to initiate, develop and realize programs relevent to their particular age group as well as contributing to the community.  Teens4Teens members will attend monthly meetings at Teen Central on the second floor and be prepared to submit proposals -like the recent SAT Practice Test- for programs and services they believe will be of interest for their peers.

These programs and services will include setting up author talks and concerts in the library, creating online web sites and eNewsletters, and creating/scheduling book clubs, poetry readings, art shows, mentoring, film/video festivals and summer reading programs, among other options.  And when you join Teens4Teens, you're also eligible for Community Service credit!

Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00 pm in Teen Central.  All you have to bring to the meeting are ideas.  For more info, call Ed or Everett at (203) 622-7918 or (203) 635-6507, or contact us online by clicking here.  If you feel the library isn't meeting your needs or those of your friends and classmates, now's your chance to do something about it!

StepUpToThePlate.pngIt's summer, and for a lot of us, that means -what else?-  baseball. But what if you could not just watch a game or two this year but actually visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame too?  Well, the American Library Association is sponsoring a great new baseball trivia contest that kicks off June 4th and runs until September 8th.  Each week a new question will be posted on this site and reposted at the same time on our own Facebook and Twitter pages.  Here are some of the details:

  • New trivia question posted each week.
  • Multiple chances to win!
  • Players will have a week use their library's resources to answer the question correctly.
  • One winner will be chosen weekly at random to receive a prize package
  • The grand prize winner will be selected from the pool of all eligible players from throughout the season.
Prizes:
  • Grand Prize: A trip for two to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum to attend the World Series Gala and a behind the scenes tour of the museum and archives in Oct. 2012.
  • Weekly runners up: A prize package from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Check back with us on Facebook & Twitter starting this Monday, June 4th.  And good luck!
