January 2012 Archives

1-31-2012 1-39-34 PM.pngOur next Teens4Teens student advisory committee meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday), Feburary 1st, at 4pm in the Teen Central area on the second floor! (Details here.)  If you're currently a student in grades 9-12 who wants to do independent projects and get Community Service credit, you'll want to sign up! Here's why:

Any student from grades 9-12 can take part in using Greenwich Library's resources to initiate, develop and realize programs relevent to their particular age group as well as contributing to the community.  Teens4Teens members will attend monthly meetings at Teen Central on the second floor and be prepared to submit proposals for programs and services they believe will be of interest for their peers.

These programs and services will include setting up author talks and concerts in the library, creating online web sites and eNewsletters, and creating/scheduling book clubs, poetry readings, art shows, mentoring, film/video festivals and summer reading programs, among other options.  And when you join Teens4Teens, you're also eligible for Community Service credit!

Meetings are currently held on the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00 pm in Teen Central.  Yes, we'll have refreshments.  All you have to bring to the meeting are ideas.  For more info, call Ed or Everett at (203) 622-7918 or (203) 635-6507, or contact us online by clicking here.  If you feel the library isn't meeting your needs or those of your friends and classmates, now's your chance to do something about it!  See you tomorrow!

Finding a good read

goodreads2.pngThe title says it all - Goodreads.  When I'm not sure what kind of Young Adult book to read next, I check out this social networking site designed for people who like to read.  You can get as involved as you like - just browse for book suggestions, read user reviews,  set up a profile to keep track of the books you're reading, or join groups and interact with other readers.  Check it out this link for Young Adult titles, http://www.goodreads.com/genres/young-adult but don't miss the related genres section of the page to further narrow down your choices.  You WILL find a good read on Goodreads.
