Greenwich Library invites you to join the fun of summer reading and keep children reading during summer vacation so that valuable reading skills won't be lost. "Studies have shown that children who continue to read during the summer months perform significantly better than those who do not," said Children's Librarian Alice Sherwood. "Children who are already reading increase their reading fluency and comprehension; those who are just starting to read do not lose the early achievements they have made during the school year."

All children who are reading independently are welcome to join the Summer Reading Program, while babies, toddlers and preschool children may participate in the Read-to-Me Club. Using "Summer Reader" online, children can track reading progress, find out about special events happening at the Libraries, and be alerted to reading milestone prizes. This online feature makes it easy to keep up with summer reading wherever you are.

Registration for the Summer Reading Program for all three Library locations begins Monday, June 16 and continues through August 1, either in person or online at www.greenwichlibrary.org/children

This year's kickoff events at the Main Library, Cos Cob and Byram branches offer a variety of Summer Reading themed educational entertainment for all ages.

On Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m., family entertainer Bryan Flint of Showtime Productions will magically motivate young people to read after experiencing "The Magic of Reading" program. Highlights of the show are the floating of an audience member and a re-creation of Houdini's most famous illusion, "Metamorphosis." Attend the show and register for Summer Reading Club. Door prizes and refreshments will follow the performance. For more information call (203) 622-7940.
