The Friends Cole Concert Series is pleased to welcome back the popular Musicians From Marlboro touring program on Sunday, May 4 at 4 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium. Musicians From Marlboro tours are noted not only for their joyous and thoroughly prepared performances, but also for offering valuable touring experience to artists at the beginning of their careers, and for featuring programs of unusual chamber repertoire.

Says Alex Ross in The New Yorker, "Marlboro Music [is] a legendary classical-music institution that brings together younger and older players in pursuit of ideal chamber-music performances."

The program for the final east coast tour of the season is built around the 20th century masterpiece, the Lyric Suite by Berg which received a stunning performance in the summer of 2012, and also includes one of Haydn's brilliant string quartets and Dvořák's Piano Quintet in A Major. Artists include Itamar Zorman and Robin Scott on violin, Samuel Rhodes on viola, Brook Speltz on cello and Cynthia Raim on piano.

A Washington Post review of Musicians From Marlboro said, "Impeccable ensemble work, unbridled energy and boatloads of virtuosity produced an electrifying performance," also calling the musicians, "Astoundingly gifted virtuosos...performances that radiate vitality and freshness."

Since 1951, Marlboro Music has played a leadership role in the development of chamber music worldwide, and in enriching the artistry and changing the lives of generations of exceptional musicians. Now celebrating its 49th season, the acclaimed touring program offers not only joyous performances featuring unusual repertoire, but also invaluable experience to emerging young artists. The Musicians from Marlboro touring program was created as an extension of Vermont's Marlboro Music Festival. More information can be found at www.marlboromusic.org
