Take Your Child to the Library Day features Music and Activities, Saturday, February 1

Greenwich Library will celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day on Saturday, February 1. Children of all ages and their families are invited to visit the Children's Room and enjoy a fun-filled day of activities while learning about our resources and programs.

A highlight of the day will be the Ashforth Children's Concert featuring Windsync, an energetic wind quintet from Texas, from 2-3 p.m. The concert is part of the Curiosity Concerts series for children and will be held in the Cole Auditorium. The program will cover pieces from Beethoven and Copland as well as Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. **Please note: this show is sold out. However, there are always a certain number of no-shows. Doors will open at 1:45 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome to come to Cole Auditorium; we will attempt to accommodate them.**

The group is a pioneer in unconventional performance practices including the addition of costumes and choreography as well as new projects dedicated to teaching tolerance through music education in schools. This year WindSync was named a winner in the 2012 Victor Elmaleh Concert Artists Guild Competition and was awarded the Sylvia Ann Hewlett Adventurous Artist Prize.

Advance registration is suggested. To reserve your space, visit www.curiosityconcerts.org

In the Greenwich Library Children's Room, the day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Sing, Play and Move with Marta for ages 2-5 with a parent or caregiver. Then, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., children of all ages can enjoy two drop-in crafts, the Melting Snowman and a Valentine themed project. Children can also get creative with Make-It-and-Take-It LEGO building where they will make a LEGO creation and take it home. Throughout the day children and their parents can play winter themed games, such as Penguin Bowling, Pin the Nose on the Snowman and Snowman Bean Bag Toss.

The Ashforth Concert Series is designed to introduce children to classical music performance. The concert is open to the public at no charge through the support of Georgie and Henry A. Ashforth. Curiosity Concerts is a new series of classical music concerts for families with children ages 5-8 and their interested siblings of any age. The series is a coalition effort spearheaded by the Greenwich Arts Council. For more information and reservations, visit www.curiosityconcerts.org.
