Kickoff Events for Dig Into Reading, the 2013 Summer Reading Program

Dig into Reading is the theme of this year's Summer Reading Program at Greenwich Library, featuring books that will take you into the garden, underground, and on a journey through the world of science and art. The Summer Reading Program is part of Greenwich Library's commitment to promote the love of reading and encourage children and their families to keep reading over the summer break.

"Studies have shown that children who continue to read during the summer months perform significantly better than those who do not," said Children's Librarian Alice Sherwood. "Children who are already reading increase their reading fluency and comprehension; those who are just starting to read do not lose the early achievements they have made during the school year."

All children who are reading independently are welcome to join the Summer Reading Program, while babies, toddlers and pre-school children may participate in the Read-to-Me Club. Registration for the Summer Reading Program at the Main Library begins Monday, June 17, in person or online; at Byram Thursday, June 20; and at Cos Cob Friday, June 21. Children may register and join the program at any time during the summer.

This year's kickoff events at the Main Library, Cos Cob and Byram branches offer a variety of educational entertainment for all ages.
