The Byram Shubert Library will be closed from August 7-22, 2010 to allow crews to move furnishings, relocate computer equipment and wiring, remove old carpet and install the new. The work is projected to take two weeks.
Although it was installed just over a year ago, the carpet at the Byram Shubert Library is already worn and frayed in areas and shows stains. The Building Committee discovered that the carpet installed at the Byram Shubert Library was not the carpet specified by the architect. As a result, the carpet manufacturer has agreed to pay for the cost of new carpeting and the installer will cover the costs of removal and installation. The Library will be responsible for only the cost for site preparation, cleaning and additional work including installation of extra backing to protect the new carpet.
"August is typically a quieter time for libraries. This timeframe will allow for the work to be completed after Summer Reading ends and before school begins," said Greenwich Library Director Carol Mahoney.
During the closure, Byram Shubert Library patrons may visit the Main Library or Cos Cob Library. The book drop at the Byram branch will be emptied frequently for the convenience of the patrons. All reserved items will be transferred to the Main Library for pickup. All fines will be waived for Byram Shubert Library patrons during the closure period.
