Greenwich Library Now Offers Eco-Friendly Tote Bags

Greenwich Library is demonstrating its commitment to being "green" by offering reusable, eco-friendly bags. Available for $2 apiece at all three branches, these bags will help reduce the carbon-footprint of the Greenwich Library System. LendingBagBig.png

The use of plastic bags takes its toll on the environment and increases our nation's dependency on foreign oil. The EPA estimates it takes a plastic bag more than 500 years to decay in a land fill, making the average person's plastic bag legacy approximately 4.175 million years. An estimated 500 billion to one trillion plastic bags are consumed world-wide each year. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 12 million barrels of oil are required to produce the 100 billion plastic bags consumed annually.
