Greenwich, CT -- Don't throw out those empty cereal boxes. An Artist's America author Michael Albert will present two Cereal Box Collage workshops in the Meeting Room on Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. for K-3rd grade and 1 p.m. for 4th grade and up.
The workshop is part of Greenwich Library's Summer Reading Program. This year's Summer Reading Program theme is Be Creative at Your Library. The Summer Reading Club, for students grades K-5, is designed to encourage the joy of reading through activities, games, incentives and a summer full of special programs.
Children will express their own creative sides as they piece together their own cereal box collages. Materials will be provided by the Library.
Albert became interested in collage by using old labels and leftover stickers accumulated from his business activities. The breakthrough came when he refused to throw away a Frosted Flakes box with which he created his first "Modern Pop Artwork." He describes the Cereal Box collages as "Cerealism," a cross between Picasso's Cubism and Andy Warhol's Pop. Registration is required beginning July 1. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing.
