P.V is a master fiddler in the old Irish tradition. He comes from Inishowen in County Donegal. He was introduced to the fiddle at a very early age and performed his first recital on stage at the tender age of four. As a young man, P.V. learned a great deal about fiddling from the legendary Inishowen fiddler, the late Pat Mulhern. P.V. toured throughout northern Ireland with several different bands. In 1977 his band, Barley Bree, moved to Canada and for the next ten years they travelled North America from coast to coast with great success. In 1987, P.V. decided to give up touring and moved to Manchester, Connecticut where he became immersed in the local traditional music scene. P.V. returns to Ireland regularly to refresh his tunes with many of the modern day musicians. He preserves the traditional Donegal style by teaching the fiddle to many students.
The show will also include singing, dancing, storytelling and an afternoon full of laughter and good cheer. Free and open to the public. Cole Auditorium doors open at 1:45 p.m. For more information, contact Alice Bonvenuto at 622-7919.
