Music from Marlboro- 3_18_08.jpgThe Musicians from Marlboro, the touring extension of the renowned Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont, will return to Greenwich Library on Sunday, February 15, at 4 p.m., as part of the Friends of Greenwich Library's Cole Concert Series. Five musicians will play works by Hayden, Kodály and Brahms in the Cole Auditorium.

The program highlights exceptional young musicians together with seasoned artists in chamber music programs of rarely heard works and masterpieces of varied instrumentation. Violinist Augustin Hadelich, gold medallist of the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, Ind., will lead this talented group if string instrumentalists. The Italian-born Hadelich will be accompanied by cellist Peter Stumpf, violinist Karina Canellakis and violist Sebastian Krunnies.

The Musicians from Marlboro touring program has introduced many of today's leading solo and chamber music artists to American audiences; among them are pianists Richard Goode, Murray Perahia, Yefim Bronfman and András Schiff, violinists Pamela Frank, Jaime Laredo and Shlomo Mintz, flutist Marina Piccinini, clarinetist Richard Stoltzman and soprano Benita Valente. Now in its 44th season, Musicians from Marlboro offers audiences across North America a sample of the varied programs and spirit of music making so characteristic of Marlboro, prompting the Washington Post to describe Musicians from Marlboro as "a virtual guarantee of musical excellence" and the New York Times to call them "extraordinary... rising stars and music legends play side by side."

The performance is free and open to the public. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., show begins at 4 p.m. This concert is made possible by your contributions to the Friends of the Greenwich Library. For more information, please call the Friends Office at 622-7938.
