NEXTCHAPTERBOOKCLUBLOGO.pngThe next meeting of the Next Chapter Book Club will take place tonight in the library's second floor Meeting Room  beginning at 5:30 pm.  For more info, click here.

The NCBC offers people with developmental disabilities (DD) to read and learn together, talk about books, and make friends in a relaxed, community setting. The club meets in local bookstores, cafés, and similar gathering places to read aloud and discuss a book for one hour on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month between 5:30-6:30 pm.

PROLOQUO2GO.pngA relative sent me this link to the Wireless Zone site that promotes (and advertises) the use of tablets and smartphones for people with special needs.  For example, the site notes how the use of the Proloquo2Go app (see picture above) on tablets can make it easier for people who are autistic  to communicate to others & express themselves more.  (It's not cheap though; asking price is around $220.)

The site goes into more detail about installing mobile accessability to smartphones to enable apps like Nuance's Vocalizer.  But it's main point -that it is possible for people with autism or other disabilities to communicate with others through developing technology- is the takeaway for me.

SOLO-007.pngAs  with Jeffrey Deaver's Carte Blanche a few years back, the Ian Fleming estate has commissioned another writer -this time, William Boyd- to produce a new James Bond 007 novel.  Solo (click here to reserve a copy from us) is the result.

DOCTORWHO50.pngYep, I'm overseeing, with the help of the Student Leadership Council, a 50th Anniversary celebration of Doctor Who at the library on Saturday, December 7th. Details here and here.

We'll have  refreshments, prizes, and a showing of a classic Doctor Who adventure selected by the attendees  at the program from our extensive DVD collection.  Everybody who's a fan of the Doctor is invited!  Hope to see you there!  And bring a comapnion!
