On Thursday night, April 16th, at 7:30 pm, in the second floor Meeting Room, Greenwich Library's Classic and Cult Television will show the original "pilot" episode of Get Smart.
Originally aired on NBC on September 18, 1965, and written by Mel Brooks with Buck Henry, the show introduced the world to CONTROL Secret Agent 86, Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) and his never-ending battle against the "forces of rottenness" represented by the criminal organization KAOS. The show also co-starred Barbara Feldon as Agent 99 and Edward Platt as the Chief of CONTROL, and was a constantly funny send-up of the James Bond 007-inspired spy craze of the 1960s.
If there's time, we'll show a second episode of the series from its first (1965-66) season on Thursday night. Meanwhile, check out WouldYouBelieve.com, the "Unofficial (but very informative) Get Smart Home Page", which features tons of information on the show and its various spinoffs, including last summer's movie remake, as well as interviews and an episode guide of the original series.
So if you get a chance, stop by the Meeting Room on Thursday night if you're interested. All are welcome! And do check out our Classic and Cult Television schedule for this spring here.
