Student Volunteer Program: Next Chapter Book Club

Student Volunteer Program: Next Chapter Book Club

With support from Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) staff, volunteer facilitators guide activities in weekly, community-based book clubs for adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities. The primary function of this position is to promote literacy skills, social connectedness, and community inclusion for book club members. Working in teams of two or three, volunteer facilitators also provide NCBC staff with regular feedback.

The club meets in local bookstores, cafés, and similar gathering places to read aloud and discuss a book for one hour on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month between 5:30-6:30 pm. Interested students must attend a brief training session before assisting the NCBC on a regular basis.
