Support Your Library Community
The Friends of the Cos Cob Library is a volunteer organization dedicated to encouraging and assisting the work
of the Cos Cob Branch of the Greenwich Library by providing information to
the community, by sponsoring programs and by coordinating the volunteer
activities of the Cos Cob Library.
The Friends reach out
to children, students, teachers, and adults to nurture a lifelong love of
reading and to introduce the vast print and non-print resources of the
Library.
The Friends membership dollars help
defray expenses outside the Library's budget with gifts of equipment, extra
supplies and by sponsoring:
- Adults' Programs (including book
discussion groups, author presentations and genealogy workshops)
- Educational & Computer Workshops
- Cultural Programs
- Entertainment Programs
- Art Exhibits
- Craft Activities
- Theme Events
- Holiday Parties
- Social Events
- Concerts
- Children's/Young Adult Programs
- Book Sales
Membership in The Friends shows
support for the Library and offers an opportunity for community service and
involvement when Friends volunteer: hosting programs and exhibits; shelf reading; and assisting with event
hospitality.

Volunteer Opportunities with The Cos Cob Friends
Shelving Volunteers
At their convenience, Volunteers check in with the Librarian and are assigned
one or more shelves to put in numerical or alphabetical order. No specific
schedule or required number of hours is required, but there are almost always
shelves needing attention.
Program Assistance
One or more Volunteers assist a day or evening program for children or adults, including preparing and
setting up any hospitality. This requires arriving about 30 minutes before
scheduled start time.
Join the Board of Directors of The Friends. Board members serve a three-year term and help to plan and stage programs.
